Computer Problems?

Why not check your computer to see if you can fix it...

  Power
Don't overlook the obvious...check that the computer is plugged in and that the electrical outlet has power.  Also check that any surge protector hasn't tripped.
  Connections
Make sure that all the wire connections in the back and/or front of the computer are secure and fully plugged in (especially the monitor and power cables).
  Recent Changes?
Did you recently install any hardware such as a hard drive, ZIP® drive, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+/-RW, Monitor, Keyboard, Printer, Scanner, etc.?

If so, check all connections, and follow the directions that came with your new hardware to reinstall the hardware drivers.  Still problems?  You may have a device conflict.  Check your hardware documentation for device conflict solutions.  Still problems?  The hardware itself may be faulty and may require an exchange from the place of purchase.

  Age of PC
Is your computer five or more years old?

It's internal battery, which keeps track of the time and critical BIOS and CMOS information may have expired.

How will you know?  Set the time on your computer, then shut down and turn off your computer.  Come back a few hours later and turn the computer on.  Does it lose your time settings?  If so, contact a computer representative for professional replacement of your internal computer battery and to professionally re-setup your CMOS and BIOS settings.

  Any corrupt files?
If you are using any Windows based PC, it's important to periodically run ScanDisk to check your hard drive for any possible errors.  If it finds errors, it is usually advisable to have it fix those errors before they grow out of control and cause serious problems.

For Windows 95, 98, 98SE and ME, to start ScanDisk, simply click Start, Run, then type Scandisk in the box.

For Windows XP, select My Computer, right-click the drive, Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options, Start.  You may be prompted to restart Windows before it will run.

  Slow PC?
If your computer seems to churn slower and slower, run Defrag.

If Defrag can't complete to 100%, start Defrag from a freshly turned on PC followed by closing or exiting any running programs located in the bottom right hand corner of your screen on the taskbar.

  Odd Behavior?
Odd or strange behavior could be caused by spyware, trojans, viruses, etc.

If you have icons that "magically" appear and won't go away, call us right away to prevent any further infection.
